Great Gable again

A couple more photos here of our expedition up Great Gable sent in by kira. This shot shows us heading up Moses Trod with the Gable north face towering above us.

The next shot is me sitting on top of the stile above the farm at Seathwaite, we had just come down Sour Milk Gill.

I just wanted to encourage anyone who has come on our walks to email their photos to us as we like to see them. I am always happy to include a few in the blog because I set it up initially for us to share our memories together. So please feel free to send in your piccies.

Great Gable last Sunday

Hi Everyone,

We went up Great Gable last Sunday in fine weather with a good prospect for the day and we were not disappointed. You can see from the first photo how clear the air was for taking piccies. This is a view down Ennerdale with Haystacks over on the right. If you click on the photo it will enlarge and then you might just make out Black Sail Hut on the right of the valley bottom nestling in underneath Haystacks, its very small mind.

This next photo shows Barbara scrambling up over the rocks towards the top of Gable, she had not been up it since she was a teenager and only had memories of frightening proportions! So on the scrambley bit I followed up close after her and she had no problems, even though she has little legs.

For those of you who have booked to come on the Wild Weekend Camping Extravaganza (9th & 10th May), can I say that there is a report circulating that there is no, I repeat, no rice pudding left at George Fishers, the last portion has been snapped up...... I shall have to go in myself tomorrow to check this shocking news as I cannot possibly go wild camping without it....I can just imagine the scene at breakfast, Pete handing me a plate of cold porridge, ugh disgusting.....

Meanwhile, I have updated the walks list for May but only up until the 12th because during the Keswick Mountain Festival, Pete and I and David Ferguson will be leading walks so cannot do any for Keswick Rambles and Terry has decided to stay at home. So if you want to walk then you had best go to here:- http://www.keswickmountainfestival.co.uk/ and sign up for some excitement. Salomon are sponsoring my walks up Haystacks with a free T shirt for every walker and David's walk up Pillar has a free Result jacket for the first 10 bookings.

Haystacks again, warm and windy

Kira, Pete and Bella with Buttermere and Crummock Water behind.

Well I have been up Haystacks again, last Friday, and this time with kira and Pete and Bella. We walked over Fleetwith Pike too and it was a splendid day. The weather has been wonderful and our faces were starting to go pink.

The Keswick Mountain Festival bookings are going well and all the folks booked to go up Haystacks with me are going to be given a free Salomon T shirt worth £22. So if you are still hesitating about this book quickly to ensure you get a place and a T shirt!

A good walk with very good company

The weather was lovely on Sunday when we went up Haystacks, a little bit breezy as we stopped for our 'elevenses' but after that the day improved so much that when we headed down towards Buttemere, most of us had to stop to shed gear!

This picture shows us on the way to the top with a view on the horizon of Great Gable on the left and next to it you can just see Scafell Pike.

The next shot shows some of the party making their way carefully across the top towards the second summit. Wainwright always said you needed to watch where you put your feet and nothing is truer than on the traverse across Haystacks, so if they are looking down and not at the camera you know why!

We stopped just past the tarn on the top for a while to look at the view as the summit was becoming crowded with other walkers who mainly came up from Buttermere the way we were going to go down. It really was quite crowded at times and I suppose we can put that down to the exposure given on the TV lately. Incidentally, that tarn on the top is not on the OS maps, if you don't believe me check it out.
Anyway, we had a fun day out and you can see I enjoyed it from the last photo but what I was pointing my finger at I don't know. I also see that Ronnie was thinking about something, I wonder what?
So thank you all, Pam, Liz, Ann, Sarah, Paul, Tony and Ronnie for being such Good Companions.
